One More From the Boys in Pink…

Pink Narcissus Press has another call out: “A Stranger Comes to Town Anthology.”  For this one they are looking for fantasy stories involving imaginary or fantastic destinations of any kind.  This one is strictly fantasy and science fiction stories without the emphasis on erotica like the last one.  Stories should be between 3,000 and 6,000 words and in their hands by May 30th, 2011.  They’re not a paying market, but a writing cred is a writing cred (up to a certain point.)

PARESC Ink Contest

So here’s an actual writing contest.  PARSEC Ink is putting on a science fiction and fantasy short story contest where the theme is “last contact.”  They’re only taking hard-copies, but I’m sure as hell gonna get one into this.  I’ve been mulling over an idea on the notion of babies and wi-fi, but more on that later.  The deadline is April 15th, 2011 (that’s right – TAX DAY) and they want sci-fi, fantasy or horror fiction from 1,000 to 3,500 words.  They’re even a paying market, so get out those quills or that hammer and chisel.  They’re only taking submissions via snail-mail, so trees will be harmed in the making of this contest.  You can mail your submissions to:  PARSEC Short Story Contest; 2966 Voelkel Avenue; Pittsburgh PA 15216-2036.

Celebrate Your Immediate Ancestors

Untreed Reads Publishing is preparing to celebrate both Mother’s and Father’s days with an anthology.  They want mystery, crime, suspense and thriller fiction that delves into tales of parentage.  Mothers and fathers are people like anyone else, and they have their own stories and their own angst.  Maybe it’s time to tell them.  Untreed is looking for stories between 1,500 and 7,500 words with a deadline of April 8th for the Mother’s Day anthology and May 1st for the Father’s day anthology.

Pill Hill Press and the Wild Wild West

Pill Hill Press is looking for weird tales out of the old west.  Think ghosts and six-guns.  Here’s their take on it:  “1) Takes place in the American Old West (Wild West) 2) Has a dark, horror element 3) Is weird, disturbing and/or unsettling.”  They’re only paying token, but I’ve found of late that this is a fun genre to write in… well… err… sub-genre.  Short stories or novelettes between 1,500 and 15,000 words for a print-anthology is what they’re after.  The deadline is March 31st, 2011, so SADDLE UP!

Library Of Horror Press Seeks Ghost Stories

With spring around the corner, it’s no wonder people are looking for ghost stories… perhaps to be told around campfires when this damn cold weather finally goes away.  The LOHP is mostly a forum, but they do a TON of anthologies.  Short story writers should bookmark this site and check back regularly.  For this call, LOHP has a deadline of January 31st, 2011 and they’re looking for, obviously, ghost stories.  Officially, that’s the Horror genre and Supernatural on the sub-genre.  They want 2,000 to 5,000 words and this one is actually a paying market.
