Chumming for Experimental Literary Tales

Chum, a literary magazine, has put out a call for experimental poetry and fiction for their next issue.  They do both print and electronic publication, so you get the best of both worlds.  For this issue they want poetry (without limits), flash fiction up to 1,000 words and short stories up to 7,500 words.  It’s an open forum so long as it’s experimental in nature and literary in style.  The deadline is June 21st, 2011, so get your stories to them ASAP.

SNM Horror Magazine Gets Jealous

SNM Horror, both a print and electronic magazine, has put out a call for their July Jealousy issue.  They want horror stories that cater one of the deadly seven: envy, jealousy, control, and possessiveness.  You know, that stuff we all feel and most of us never want to?  The deadline is June 20th, 2011 and they are an occasionally paying market.  Check their site for details.  They want poetry up to 32 lines or short stories of 2,000 to 5,000 words.  Did I mention that they’ll take erotica?  Hmmm?  Wink wink.  The only thing they’re not interested in is “extreme” horror.  Not sure how you gauge that, but they may have a better description on their site.  Good luck!

Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Cynocephalic…

No, that’s not naughty.  Bibliotheca Alexandrina is an imprint that focuses on the ancient pantheons of humanity.  This anthology is looking for stories that depict the cynocephalic deities of the Greco-Roman and Egyptian pantheons like Anubis, Wepwawet and Hermanubis.  If you don’t know who they are, try GOOGLE!  They (Bibliotheca, not the gods) want general fiction and are open to all styles and genres with a religious/spiritual theme.  The deadline is May 22, 2011, and they want either poetry or short stories between 1,000 and 7,500 words in length.

SNM Horror Gets JINXED!

SNM Horror, a monthly electronic horror pub, needs stories for their  June issue.  The theme is Jinxes: jinxes, hexes, curses, spell casting, dark superstitions and/or black magic.  Voodoo dolls?  Hell yes!  Mummy curses?  Sho’nuff.  Black cats and broken mirrors?  Why not?  Witches and cauldrons, bubble-bubble, make ‘em stick and… and… do something that rhymes with cauldron…. ;-)    SNM is an occasionally paying market – check their site – and they want horror stories done well done… that is, done darkly.  Just don’t send them EXTREME horror.  They’ll take poetry or short stories between 2,000 and 5,000 words, and they want them by May 20th, 2011.

Riverbabble, Not Psychobabble….

Riverbabble, a bi-annual electronic publication has put out a call for poetry, flash fiction and short fiction for their next issue.  They’re interested in general works that hit the experimental and literary styles.  The theme for this go-around is Temptation & Seduction, so dig deep into that innermost, naughty bit and pull out some writing that tempts, tantalizes and raises the temperature of your audience.  Strike a blow at the very libido of anyone who glances in your direction.  Take off that…. err… sorry.  Got carried away.  Just have your piece (not THAT kind of piece, you cretins) in to them by May 19th, 2011.  Oh, the cap on word-count is 2,500, to be succinct, not verbose.  Make every word count!
