Chumming for Experimental Literary Tales

Chum, a literary magazine, has put out a call for experimental poetry and fiction for their next issue.  They do both print and electronic publication, so you get the best of both worlds.  For this issue they want poetry (without limits), flash fiction up to 1,000 words and short stories up to 7,500 words.  It’s an open forum so long as it’s experimental in nature and literary in style.  The deadline is June 21st, 2011, so get your stories to them ASAP.

Riverbabble, Not Psychobabble….

Riverbabble, a bi-annual electronic publication has put out a call for poetry, flash fiction and short fiction for their next issue.  They’re interested in general works that hit the experimental and literary styles.  The theme for this go-around is Temptation & Seduction, so dig deep into that innermost, naughty bit and pull out some writing that tempts, tantalizes and raises the temperature of your audience.  Strike a blow at the very libido of anyone who glances in your direction.  Take off that…. err… sorry.  Got carried away.  Just have your piece (not THAT kind of piece, you cretins) in to them by May 19th, 2011.  Oh, the cap on word-count is 2,500, to be succinct, not verbose.  Make every word count!

Iron Horse Father’s Day Special

And I don’t mean ties!  Iron Horse Literary Review is, as they say, “a national literary arts publication for short fiction, poetry, non-fiction and artwork.”  They’re looking for that sort of writing for their Father’s Day special, including poetry, flash fiction up to 1,000 words and short stories up to 7,500 words.  The deadline is May 6th, 2011, they are a paying market and in some cases (poetry) they take multiple submissions.  They also don’t ding you for multiple submissions.  I’ve been turned down by these guys, and they’re really nice about it.  ;-)

5X5 Shines a Light

5X5, a quarterly print publication that does general, fantasy and sci-fi, has a call out for their next issue.  They want stories that treat with illumination in some fashion.  They also want stories that fit into poems or flash fiction under 500 words, so get CTRL-X ready when you’re editing.  KEEP IT TIGHT, MARINES!  They’re not a paying market, but with a name like 5X5, it has to be good.  Or something like that.  The deadline is May 1st, 2011 (and hopefully it will actually be warm on a regular basis bi then — DAMN THIS COLD).  Sorry, it’s gloomy here and I’m a child of the sun.

Wising Up Press On Immigration

Wising Up Press has decided to take on a delicate subject and broaden it into a tantalizing theme for an anthology.  They want general stories (perhaps bordering on the literary) that are squarely in the realm of social and political commentary in some fashion.  However, rather than dealing with just the illegal immigration into the United States, they want stories that fit under four separate headings, but I’ll let you see those for themselves.  I must admit that with what their proposing, and if done objectively during the selection process, this one promises to be quite interesting.  They’ll take poems, flash fiction up to 1,000 words and short stories from 1,000 to 5,000 words.  If I wasn’t neck-deep in editing my own anthology right now I’d probably jump on this one like a cat on a mousse…. err… make that mouse… I haven’t had breakfast yet or my coffee.  The deadline for this one is May 1st, 2011, so get cracking.
